Witch Hazel

 

Uses: topical use for treatment of minor cuts and abrasions, insect bites, sun burns, acne, psoriasis, eczema, diaper rash, varicose veins and muscle soreness, hemorrhoids and post-partum vaginal trauma. May reduce minor bleeding.

Chemical structure: calcium oxalate, gallotannins, safrole, and essential oils carvacrol and eugenol. 

Parts used: liquid distilled from leaves, bark and twigs of witch hazel bush.

Side Effects and Precautions: oral ingestion may cause cramping.
