Secrets of Aloe


Uses: burns, sunburns, wounds, skin irritations, acne, psoriasis, genital herpes

Chemical structure: 75 active constituentsincluding polysaccharides, anthraquinones, vitamins A, C, and E, enzymes aloin and emodin, hormones auxins and gibberellins, minerals, and sterols.

Parts used: aloe vera gel is made from the central part of the leaf; it contains active compounds such as glycoprotein that reduce pain and inflammation and polysaccharides to stimulate growth and repair of skin. Excellent moisturizer.

    • aloe vera can be used to treat acne
    • grown in subtropical and tropical locations
    • may treat diabetes and alcohol-induced liver damage
    • Columbus used it to treat soldier's wounds 

Precautions: do not apply to open or deep wounds. If taken orally for constipation, may cause cramping.
